Prescription Drug Overdose Prevention Education & Outreach Coordinator, Rhode Island Department of Health, Division of Community, Family Health & Equity

Ms. Tavares is the Education & Outreach Coordinator for the Drug Overdose Prevention Program (DOPP) and Co-Chair of the Racial Equity Working Group (REWG) for Governor McKee’s Overdose Prevention and Intervention Task Force. She also leads the BIPOC Affinity Group, fostering an inclusive space for professionals of color.


She provides overdose prevention education to high-risk populations and advocates for racial equity in public health. She played a key role in making the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) the first state agency certified as a Recovery Friendly Workplace.

A Diverse Executives Leading in Public Health (DELPH) Scholar, Ms. Tavares is passionate about addressing health disparities. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, learning, and spending time with family.
