Megan Umbriano
Deputy Chief of the Rhode Island Department of Health's Center for EMS
Megan Umbriano is the Deputy Chief of the Rhode Island Department of Health's Center for EMS. She has served in this position since February 2023, managing multiple responsibilities, including grants management for the Center. Megan has 19 years of experience working in the fire/EMS field, starting as a Junior Firefighter at the North Scituate Fire Department when she was just 15 years old. Megan's love for EMS has blossomed over years of service to her town and working in the private EMS sector. Starting with an EMT license, she advanced through ranks to EMT-Cardiac and Lieutenant, now serving as her fire department's first female President.
Megan's professional journey is a testament to her versatility and adaptability. Before taking on the Deputy Chief of EMS role, she built a solid foundation in a different field. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Rhode Island in 2012. For a decade, she specialized in pediatric critical care and gastroenterology in a clinical nutrition setting. She continues to work as a Pediatric Dietitian in a small private nutrition practice, maintaining her RI Dietitian license.
Outside of her professional life, Megan is a woman of many passions. Her love for gardening led her to become a Master Gardener in 2023. During the spring and summer, she can be found tending to her vegetable or flower gardens and volunteering with the URI Master Gardener program. She enjoys skiing, crocheting, and reading in the cold RI winter months.
